eClass Outage Saturday August 25th 2018

Attention eClass users,

This is a reminder that there will be a scheduled maintenance outage for eClass on August 25th 2018 from 6:00AM to 9:00AM. This outage is required to release minor updates and bug fixes to eClass. The major changes of note in this version of eClass include:

  • The Syllabus Creation Tool has been updated and is now available across the site.
  • Courses that reside within Faculties with access to Kaltura will now have the Kaltura ‘MyMedia’ link available through the left navigation drawer.
  • The group sign-up block now includes additional options to prevent students from seeing the names of existing group members and from directly adding peers to groups.
  • To comply with University of Alberta digital style guidelines, the eClass banner repository course is being decommissioned. Images that were previously available in this course will be replaced with a smaller selection of banners that conform to current policy.
  • The course participation report is being deprecated and will no longer be available within the reports area.
  • Miscellaneous bug and security fixes have been applied throughout the site.

Please note that while we have booked a 3 hour maintenance window, eClass will be available as soon as the required infrastructure changes are complete. We will be sending an additional announcement once access to eClass has been restored.

ePoll Outage Announcement - Friday August 24th 2018

Attention ePoll users,

This is a notification that there will be a maintenance outage for ePoll on Friday, August 24th 2018 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. This outage is required to apply infrastructure updates and release a new version of the application.

This new version of ePoll includes some useful new functionality as we open up the service for full Beta access. New features include:

  • Instructors can now edit questions and answers that have not yet been polled.
  • Poll results can now be pushed directly to student devices.
  • Instructors can now designate correct answers in all question types. This feature can be used to collect student results.
  • Instructors will now have a workflow to push poll scores into eClass.
  • Users can now login with the UofA’s Single-Sign-On (SSO) functionality using their CCID and password.

Please note that this outage requires a database rebuild so any student participation data in past sessions must be downloaded prior to the outage.

eClass Major Outage Schedule 2018-2019

Attention eClass users,

eClass requires regularly scheduled outages to perform necessary updates and maintenance to eClass and eClassLive on specific dates designed to minimize the impact on the majority of eClass users.

For the coming year, full 24-hour and 48-hour maintenance windows for eClass and eClassLive are scheduled for the following dates:

  • August 25th 2018 (24 hours)
  • January 5th - 6th 2019 (48 hours)
  • May 4th, 2019 (24 hours)
  • June 22nd - 23rd 2019 (48 hours)

Each 24-hour outage will run from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM and each 48-hour outage will start at 12:00 AM on the first listed day and will end at 11:59 PM on the following day unless otherwise posted.

eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable for the duration of each of these maintenance windows, so please plan well in advance and do not schedule any tasks that require eClass to be available during these windows. Note however that most outages will require less time than forecast and anytime the work is completed early the system is released for use.

Please note that this new schedule only includes planned maintenance windows, and that eClass may still require emergency outages for shorter durations as necessary throughout the year.

eClass Post-Upgrade Performance Testing June 26th 7:00 - 7:30 AM

Attention eClass users,

This is an alert that eClass will undergo a brief session of performance testing on Tuesday, June 26th from 7:00AM - 7:30PM. These tests are required to benchmark the performance of the eClass server infrastructure.

We do not expect any disruption in service within the posted window, but the potential exists for some users to experience performance slowdowns during the testing period.

Attention eClassLive users,

RESOLVED - June 25th at 9:00AM: The hosting team has made a change to the Adobe Connect infrastructure to resolve the root cause of this issue.  Network access has been restored and eClassLive sessions should now function properly.

UPDATE - June 22nd at 4:15PM: Our hosting provider has found network traffic slowdowns in the Adobe Connect infrastructure and are working to repair the problem.

The eClassLive application is currently experiencing a service degradation. Users may experience issues with audio performance, document sharing, and breakout rooms.

We have escalated this issue to our hosting provider, who is investigating further.
