UPDATED: eClass Outage Saturday January 6th 2018 12:00AM - 11:59PM

Attention eClass users,

UPDATE: eClass is now available - the maintenance outage was completed early and the site was released at 11:00AM.

As we depart for the Christmas break, we wanted to share a quick reminder that there will be a scheduled maintenance outage for eClass on January 6th 2018 from 12:00AM - 11:59PM. This outage is required for our hosting provider to perform infrastructure maintenance.

Please note that while we have booked a full 24 hour maintenance window, eClass will be available as soon as the required infrastructure changes are complete. We will be sending an additional announcement once access to eClass has been restored.

eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable for the duration of this outage. If you have any questions about this outage, please contact us at eclass@ualberta.ca.

UPDATE: eClass Notification Email Issue

UPDATE: Email functionality has now been restored in eClass and mail queues have resumed. Please be advised that it may take some time for queued mail tasks to be processed.

Please be aware that the eClass service is currently experiencing email notification delays. Announcements, forum subscription, submission notifications, and other actions that push emails from eClass are delayed and may even fail to send. The IST eClass team is currently working to restore system email functionality as soon as possible.

UPDATED: eClass Assignment Grading Issues Tuesday, October 10th, 2017

Attention eClass instructors,

UPDATE - Oct. 18th 2017 2PM: Continued investigation into the document conversion problems in assignment grading has determined that a replacement of the current PDF converter is the best option for long-term sustainability and server performance. eClass support has tested a new conversion tool which will be deployed by our hosting provider on Thursday October 19th 2017 at 8:00AM. This deployment is not expected to cause any interruption to service.

While this change should resolve the document conversion problems, some users may still experience a separate error that should not impact assignment grading (for more information see Problems Grading Assignments.) We are still investigating and working toward a resolution for that issue.

UPDATE - Oct. 12 2017 4PM: Investigation into the assignment grading performance problems has revealed that the process that converts documents for PDF annotation fails periodically when it encounters certain document types/features and this failure halts the processing of all subsequent assignment grading across the site.

eClass support and the IST hosting team have attempted various fixes to alleviate this issue but nothing has succeeded. Until a full solution is discovered, the process that converts documents will be terminated manually by the hosting team if it runs over a certain threshold.

Some users have reported issues when using the assignment grading interface. These issues range from not being able to grade specific individual assignments to having problems logging back in to eClass.

If you encounter the latter problem and are having issues logging in, you may need to clear your session cache to regain access to eClass.

The eClass support team is currently working with our hosting provider to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. We will be updating this post as we make progress in our investigation.

ePoll (Beta) Outage Monday, October 2, 2017 7:00AM

Attention ePoll (Beta) users,

ePoll (Beta) will be offline Monday, October 2nd, from 7:00AM to 3:00PM for infrastructure maintenance and an application upgrade.

This outage will improve system performance and introduce changes to some of the question creation and delivery workflows.
