eClass Outage Saturday January 5th 2019

Attention eClass users,

This is a reminder that there will be a scheduled maintenance outage for eClass from Saturday January 5th, 2019 12:00AM through Sunday January 6th, 2019 11:59PM. This outage is required to perform annual system maintenance and release updates to eClass.

The major change of note in this outage is the beta release of the eClass mobile app - a native iOS and Android application that enables basic course access and a limited set of eClass functionality for on-the-go access. For a full list of the available features and intended uses of the app, please see this article.

Please note that while we have booked a 48-hour maintenance window, eClass will be available as soon as the required changes are complete. (The January 2018 outage took only 9 hours to complete.) We will be sending an additional announcement once access to eClass has been restored.

eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable for the duration of this outage. If you have any questions about this outage, please contact us at eclass@ualberta.ca.

iClicker End-of-life Summer 2019

Attention iClicker users,

Starting in July 2019, iClicker will no longer be supported as a student response system (SRS) at the University of Alberta. iClicker base stations will be removed from labs and classrooms and technical support for iClickers will no longer be provided by IST.

This decision has been made based off of feedback to replace iClicker with a web accessible system that is free to use, integrated with eClass, and does not require students to purchase a separate device.

Until the decommissioning occurs, all existing iClicker users will continue to have full support and access to existing base stations.

To replace iClicker, IST will now be supporting ePoll, a fully online, free-to-use SRS that is already available and being used by a number of early adopters. ePoll has gone through several rounds of architectural and feature improvements and provides a full range of student response system features.

Respondus Lockdown Browser End-of-life July 2019

Attention Respondus Lockdown Browser users,

Starting in July 2019, Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLDB) will no longer be supported as a mechanism for quiz security at the University of Alberta. The software will no longer be available for any campus computer labs and will no longer be available to download onto user devices.

Instead, IST will now be supporting ExamLock, a secure exam delivery tool that is currently being used by a number of early adopters and is already installed in some IST managed labs. ExamLock is locally-developed and designed to deliver eClass quizzes in a full-screen secure mode while recording all on-screen activity during quiz attempts. The tool can also be installed on student devices to allow them to complete secure quizzes on personal machines.

eClass Emergency Outage November 18th 2018 from 1:00 AM - 2:00 AM

Please be aware that there will be an eClass outage on Sunday November 18th, 2018 from 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM. This outage is required by our hosting provider to perform urgent system maintenance.


eClass and eClassLive will be unavailable throughout the maintenance window.

ePortfolio Outage Wednesday October 31, 2018 at 4:30PM - 5:30PM

Attention ePortfolio (Mahara) Users,

The ePortfolio (Mahara) service will be unavailable on Wednesday October 31st from 4:30PM to 5:30PM. This outage is required to apply updates to the system infrastructure.

This outage only affects the Mahara ePortfolio service. eClass and eClassLive will NOT be affected by this outage.
