Uploading Files as Links in Content

Article Last Updated June 2019

In any editable content area on eClass, users can upload files and create links to them. This can be done in any area where the HTML editor is available: content section headers, page resources, activity or resource descriptions, and new in 2019, in the essay grading response text. Unlike many file linking routines, you do not need to upload the files in advance to do this - it all occurs as you create the link. The uploaded files can be any standard document file type but bear in mind that only web-viewable files (eg. PDF) will be able to display in the browser; all other file types will automatically download.

This example will show how to create a link to an uploaded file on the main course content page.

1. On the main page of your course content, go to your desired content section header. Click on Edit > Edit topic on the top right of the section.

2. In the settings area for the content section header, go to the HTML Editor, and type the title of your link in the text box.

3. Highlight the text and click the Insert/edit link button in center of the top row of icons.

4. The Create/edit link window will pop-up. Click on the Browse repositories button.

5. The "File Picker" window will pop up. Click Upload a file > Choose file then navigate to your desired PDF file on your local machine. Once selected, then click Upload this file.

6. Your link will now show in colour in the HTML editor; click Save changes at page bottom to return to your course page and you will now have a link connecting to your PDF file in the header of the content section.
