Respondus Lockdown Browser Deprecation Reminder
Posted by Dave Laurie on 28 May 2019 11:10 AM

Attention Respondus Lockdown Browser users,

This is a reminder that starting in July 2019, Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLDB) will no longer be supported as a mechanism for quiz security at the University of Alberta. The software will no longer be available for any campus computer labs and will no longer be available to download onto user devices.

Instead, IST will now be supporting ExamLock, a secure exam delivery tool that is currently being used by a number of early adopters and is already installed in IST managed labs. ExamLock is locally-developed and designed to deliver eClass quizzes in a full-screen secure mode while monitoring all on-screen activity during quiz attempts. The tool can be installed on student devices to allow them to complete secure quizzes on personal machines. To view more information about ExamLock, please see here.

For more information about transitioning from RLDB to ExamLock, please contact us at eclass@ualberta.ca.

Regards,
IST eClass Support

iClicker Decommissioning Reminder
Posted by Dave Laurie on 27 May 2019 10:02 AM

Attention iClicker users,

This is a reminder that starting in summer term 2019, iClicker will no longer be supported as a student response system (SRS) at the University of Alberta. iClicker base stations will be removed from labs and classrooms and technical support for iClickers will no longer be provided by IST.

Spring 2019 is the last term iClicker users will continue to have full support and access to existing base stations.

To replace iClicker, IST will now be supporting ePoll, a fully online, free-to-use SRS that is already available and being used by a number of early adopters. For full documentation about using ePoll, please view this article.

Anyone with questions about this change can contact us for more information at eclass@ualberta.ca or by phone at 780-492-9372.

Regards,
IST eClass Support

eClass Scheduled Course Archiving 2019
Posted by Dave Laurie on 10 May 2019 10:56 AM

Attention eClass users,

We have an important announcement that may impact your courses on eClass.

The annual scheduled archiving of credit courses for this year has been planned for May 27th, 2019. This process, described in more detail here, mandates that credit courses can only remain on eClass for a maximum duration of four years. Non-credit courses including sandboxes, content development templates, research/collaboration courses, and eClass External courses are not affected by this process.

On May 27th 2019, credit courses that are more than four years old will be archived off of eClass. These courses will no longer appear in a user’s course list and instructors will no longer be able to directly copy content from these courses forward into new courses. Instructors will be able to request a course be restored from the archive by contacting eClass support. Another option for instructors or students who wish to have personal copies of the content from these older courses is to copy the content from these courses manually.

The timeline and schedule below describe this process.

Credit Courses Terms Removal Date
Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall Terms 2014 May 2019
Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall Terms 2015 May 2020
Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall Terms 2016 May 2021

Anyone with questions about this process can contact eclass@ualberta.ca or by phone at 780-492-9372 for more information.

Regards,
IST eClass Support
